Abstract

Abstract. Stroke is a cerebrovascular disease that serves as a leading cause of disability and mortality both in Indonesia and globally. Stroke patients experience various neurological deficits that significantly increase the risk of falls during hospitalization and following discharge. Fall incidents in stroke patients can lead to serious complications, such as fractures, head injuries, prolonged hospital stays, and increased healthcare costs. This community service program aims to enhance patients’ and their families’ knowledge of the causes, signs, effects, hazards, and prevention of falls in both hospital and home settings. The activity was conducted at the Stroke Unit of RSUD MM Dunda Limboto, Gorontalo, involving nursing students as educational facilitators. The method employed was a lecture supported by educational media, including leaflets and banners. The program was implemented in four stages: preparation, briefing, implementation, and evaluation and reporting. The results indicated an improvement in participants’ knowledge following the educational intervention, as evidenced by oral evaluations of both patients and their families. Participants also demonstrated high enthusiasm and active participation during the lecture and discussion sessions. Family involvement in this educational program strengthens social support networks for post-stroke patients; therefore, fall prevention education should be integrated into discharge planning for every stroke patient.
