Abstract

Diabetic ulcers are damage that occurs partially (Partial Thickness) or completely (Full Thickness) on the skin area that extends to the subcutaneous tissue, tendons, muscles, bones or joints that occurs in someone suffering from Diabetes Mellitus (DM), this condition arises due to increased high blood sugar levels. Management of diabetic ulcer wounds can be done with modern dressing methods. Changing the dressing with modern dressing is done every 3 days and the process of closing the wound tissue is faster and the dressing used can reduce injury to the wound. While changing the dressing with conventional techniques, although the cost is cheap, the duration of changing the dressing is very short because it is done every day, this causes the closure of the wound tissue to take a long time and the wound is at risk of infection. This case study aims to describe the nursing care for optimizing wound management in Mrs. H, a patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) ulcer sepsis in the ICU of Kendari City Hospital. Observational research method, with a sample size of 1 patient. The application was optimized using the modern dressing method, with a duration of approximately 3 days. The application of the modern dressing method aims to moisturize the wound, reduce odor, reduce pus production, and accelerate wound healing. Mrs. H underwent wound management using the modern dressing method for 3 days, resulting in a reddened wound, reduced pus production, and decreased odor. The modern dressing method is recommended and considered effective because it can accelerate the healing process in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus ulcers.
