Abstract

Immunization is the most effective effort in reducing morbidity due to PD3I. In its implementation, immunization causes pain. Non-pharmacological pain management that can be used is by providing breast milk and non-nutritive sucking. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference between providing breast milk and non-nutritive sucking on infant pain responses during pentavalent immunization. This study is a quantitative study with a Quasy experimental design, with a non-equivalent control group posttest-only design approach. The sampling technique was accidental sampling with a total of 32 respondents divided into 16 respondents in the breast milk group and 16 respondents in the non-nutritive sucking group. Data analysis used the Mann Whitney test. The results of this study showed that the average pain response in the breast milk group was 3.94, while in the non-nutritive sucking group it was 5.69. The conclusion is that there is a significant difference in the infant's pain response during pentavalent immunization in the breastfeeding group and the non-nutritive sucking group. It is expected that breastfeeding and non-nutritive sucking can be used as non-pharmacological pain management during immunization, especially pentavalent immunization.
